Remove the drums from any song
Upload a song and StemX splits it into six stems, then opens it with the drums muted so you hear the band without the kit. The first 60 seconds are free with no account.

What drummers use it for
Drumless play-along tracks
Play the part yourself over the original band, with the click from the song's own beats if you want one.
Learning a groove
Solo the drums to hear what the drummer plays under the vocal, then mute them and play it back.
Samples and loops
Take a break or a fill on its own for a beat or a remix, if you have the rights to the recording.
Transcription
A full split writes drum MIDI with hits on Kick, Snare, Toms, Hi-Hat and Crash & Ride tracks, a start for a chart or a programmed part.
How to make a drumless track
- 1
Upload the song
Use an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, AAC or AIFF file up to 10 minutes long. The preview needs no account.
- 2
Hear it without drums
The workspace opens with the drum stem muted and plays the first 60 seconds. Solo the drums to check how much of the kit came out.
- 3
Split the full song
Sign in to process the whole track. Play along in the browser with the drums muted, and turn on the click if you want the beat kept for you.
- 4
Take it into your DAW
Download every stem except the drums, or the ZIP of all of them, and line them up at zero to build your own mix.
How clean is the drum stem?
On the 50 songs of the MUSDB18-HQ test set, the drums stem scored a median SDR of 13.30 dB (95% interval 12.18–14.11 dB). Higher is cleaner; the post linked below explains the method and every figure.
What to expect
Cymbals are the hardest part of the kit to separate. Their wash shares frequencies with guitars and vocals, so a little cymbal can stay in the other stems and a little of the band can ride on the drum stem.
Percussion such as shakers, tambourine and congas usually comes out with the drums. Drum machines and electronic kits are treated as drums too.
Downloads are separate stems, not a finished drumless mix file. Load the stems you want into any DAW to export one.
Drum MIDI lists hits per kit piece. Open, closed and pedal hi-hat share one track, and quiet ghost notes can be missed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the drums from a song?
Upload the song above. StemX splits it into six stems and opens the preview with the drums muted; sign in to process the whole song.
Is it free?
The 60-second preview is free with no account. Full songs use minutes from your plan: the Free plan includes 30 minutes a month.
Which files can I upload?
MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, OGG, AAC and AIFF files, up to 10 minutes and 120 MB each.
Can I download the song without drums as one file?
Not as one file yet. Download the other stems and mix them in your DAW, or play along in the browser with the drums muted.
Can I get the drums on their own?
Yes. Solo the drum stem in the workspace, or download it as a 320 kbps MP3. Any paid plan or minutes pack adds WAV.
Does it make drum MIDI?
Yes, on full splits. The drum MIDI has hits sorted onto Kick, Snare, Toms, Hi-Hat and Crash & Ride tracks. The 60-second preview has no MIDI.
Can I keep a click while the drums are muted?
Yes. A full split detects every beat, and the player can play a click on the song's own beats alongside the stems.
